Questions & Answers

Common questions about chiropractic care at Centrepoint Chiropractic Clinic

Thinking about visiting a chiropractor but have questions? You're not alone. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) has been answering these questions for over 40 years, helping Caboolture residents understand what chiropractic care involves and whether it might be suitable for their situation. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.

About Your First Visit

What should I expect during my first chiropractic visit?

Your first visit begins with a detailed conversation about your health history, current symptoms, and what brought you to seek chiropractic care. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) will ask about your work, activities, previous injuries, and how your symptoms affect your daily life.

This is followed by a physical examination which may include checking your posture, range of motion, reflexes, and specific tests related to your condition. Everything is explained as we go, and you'll never be asked to do anything that increases your pain or discomfort.

Based on the findings, Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) will explain what's happening and discuss whether chiropractic care might be appropriate for your situation. If suitable, gentle techniques are used based on your comfort level. The initial consultation typically takes 30-45 minutes.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No referral is needed for most chiropractic appointments. You can book directly by calling 07 5495 1763. However, if you have a chronic condition and want to use Medicare GPCCMP benefits, you'll need a referral from your GP under an Enhanced Primary Care plan.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy movement. You'll need to move your arms, legs, and torso during the examination, so avoid tight clothing or complicated outfits. Athletic wear or casual clothes work well.

Should I bring anything to my first appointment?

Bring any relevant medical reports, scans, or X-rays if you have them, along with a list of current medications. If you're a DVA patient, bring your Gold or White Card. For Medicare GPCCMP patients, bring your referral from your GP.

About Costs and Insurance

How much does chiropractic care cost?

Consultation fees vary depending on the type and length of appointment. We provide clear pricing before any treatment begins, and there are no hidden costs. Payment can be made by cash, EFTPOS, or credit card.

Do you accept health insurance and Medicare?

Yes, we process most major health funds through HICAPS, which means you receive your rebate immediately and only pay the gap fee. We're also a Medibank Preferred Provider, which often means higher rebates for Medibank members.

For Medicare, we accept GPCCMP (Enhanced Primary Care) referrals for eligible patients with chronic conditions. DVA Gold and White Card holders receive no-gap fees for eligible conditions - we bill DVA directly.

What if I don't have health insurance?

You're still very welcome. Many of our patients don't have private health cover. We believe everyone deserves access to quality chiropractic care regardless of insurance status, and we'll always discuss fees clearly before any treatment begins.

About Treatment and Safety

Is chiropractic treatment safe?

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when provided by registered practitioners. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) is registered with AHPRA (CHI0001610092) and has been providing safe chiropractic care since 1982. Serious adverse events are extremely rare.

All techniques are explained before use, and treatment is always within your comfort level. If you're nervous or have concerns, please discuss these - we can start with very gentle techniques and build your confidence over time.

Will the treatment hurt?

Most patients find chiropractic treatment comfortable and often experience immediate relief. Some techniques involve a gentle "clicking" sound, which is normal and not painful. Occasionally, you might experience mild soreness afterwards, similar to after exercise, but this typically resolves within 24-48 hours.

What techniques do you use?

Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) uses several techniques including Diversified Spinal Adjusting, Activator Method (a gentle, low-force technique using an instrument), Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT), Trigenics, and Extremity Adjusting. The approach is tailored to your comfort level, age, and specific needs.

How many treatments will I need?

This varies significantly depending on your individual condition, how long you've had symptoms, your general health, and your response to care. Some people notice improvement after just a few visits, while others with chronic conditions may need ongoing care.

Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) discusses realistic timeframes during your initial assessment and provides regular updates on your progress. You're never pressured into lengthy treatment plans, and you can stop treatment at any time.

About Specific Patient Groups

Do you treat children and elderly patients?

Yes, we welcome patients of all ages, from babies to seniors. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) has extensive experience with different age groups and uses gentle, age-appropriate techniques. For children, techniques are very gentle, and for elderly patients, we take into account conditions like osteoporosis or arthritis.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes, many pregnant women find chiropractic care helpful for managing back pain and pelvic discomfort. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) uses techniques specifically adapted for pregnant women and avoids any positions that might be uncomfortable for expectant mothers.

I'm a veteran - do you accept DVA patients?

Absolutely. Centrepoint Chiropractic Clinic is a DVA-approved provider, and we're honoured to care for our veterans. Gold and White Card holders receive no-gap fees for eligible conditions, and we bill DVA directly so there's no upfront payment required.

About Our Practice

How long has Dr David Chapman been practicing?

Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) has been the principal chiropractor at Centrepoint since 1982 - over 40 years. The clinic itself has been serving the Caboolture area since 1965, making us one of Queensland's longest-established chiropractic practices.

What's the difference between a chiropractor and a physiotherapist?

Both professions help with musculoskeletal problems, but they use different approaches. Chiropractors focus primarily on spinal adjustments and joint manipulation, while physiotherapists typically use exercise therapy, massage, and other modalities. Many people find benefit from either approach, and it often comes down to personal preference and your specific condition.

Where is the clinic located and is parking available?

We're located at Shop 7, 25 Morayfield Road, Caboolture South - just a few minutes from central Caboolture. One of our key advantages is free parking right at our front door. No hunting for parking metres, no walking from distant car parks - just drive up and walk straight in.

What are your opening hours?

We're open Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm. All appointments are by arrangement, so please call 07 5495 1763 to book. Judy, our receptionist, will help you find an appointment time that suits your schedule.

Still Have Questions?

Every patient's situation is unique, and you may have questions specific to your circumstances. The best way to get personalised answers is to have a conversation with Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) during a consultation.

If you're still unsure whether chiropractic care might be suitable for your situation, you're welcome to call and discuss your concerns with our team. Sometimes a brief phone conversation can help clarify whether an appointment would be worthwhile.
